The music is created from 4 basic component parts:

    Field Recordings
Samples of (previously unreleased) Regolith recordings and audio experiments
    Live instruments
    Electronic Processing/Synthesis

The inspiration for this work was Musique Concrete - using whole recorded sounds as building blocks rather than writing notes to be played.

To spice up the mix, we also transcribed the processed parts into pitch and rhythmic information, and rescored these notes for various orchestral and percussion instruments.

The result is a peculiar mix of intention and non-intention...there are composed sections...there are fortuitous moments of noise processing transcribed and played on live instruments...there are natural and industrial sounds...all these aspects were mixed to create a rich sonic palette which hopefully reflects the elements it is constructed from...and combines them into something that is at once familiar yet alien!

about

"Two wrongs make a right…"

Regolith formed in 2005 for the purpose of creating music ... more on a geological scale; music of mountains, shifting like glaciers, slow and relentless processes on grand timescales. From deep tectonic ambience to explosive volcanic noise, this is music of stone, designed to be as contemplative and beautiful – yet unpredictable and dangerous – as nature itself. less
